Is Your Child Ready for Sight Words?

Before you dive into sight words, research shows that reading is more successful when you start with phonics *first*.

Traditionally, sight words were used in a “whole word” approach that made kids memorize the sight words. This is no longer the leading method, and instead, you should first set the foundation with phonics, and your kiddo should have a good understanding of the relationship between letters and the sounds they make, and are able to sound out letters.

After that, they’re ready for these cards! And you can play games with these cards to give your kiddo a reading boost with these most commonly used words.

Need to get started on phonics first? Check out my phonics printables.

What Makes These Cards Special

Reading practice. Helps your early reader decode the most frequently used words in English.

Reuse them (over and over). Why use printables? Because you get to print them as many times as you want. And repurpose them into a million different activities. Ideas included.

Vibrant colors. Colorful watercolor art keeps your little learner focused and engaged.

Hit developmental milestones. Hands-on learning activity that’s age-appropriate for preschool and early elementary kids.

Compact design. Take them in the car, to the park, in an airplane, to grandma’s house. They go everywhere!

Activity Ideas

Wondering exactly how to use the sight word cards? I’ve got you covered.

Sensory bin. Hide the cards in a sensory bin to have your kiddo find them, read them, & match them.

Card games. Create a deck of cards by printing multiple sets of cards and play card games like Go Fish, Slap It and Memory. Instructions included.

Scavenger Hunt. Set out the cards and have your kid look for objects around the room/yard that match the number on the card. i.e. 3 sticks next to 3 rainbows.

Relay race. Little one having trouble sitting to learn? Then get them up and moving with a relay race — running back and forth to read and match the cards.

Decoration. Make a decorative banner with the cards for your kid’s room, nursery, baby shower or classroom.

Independent play. Turn this into an independent activity by by putting plain text cards in a basket and sentence cards in another, and having them match the cards.

Memory game. Play a game of Memory, matching the plain text cards with the sentence cards.

These are just some of ideas you’ll receive in your free bonus Flash Card Activity Guide!
